Bob Gordon, Managing Director
RECREATIONAL and professional cyclists are invited to join Forestry Tasmania, Southern Cross and Tasmanian celebrities in supporting Sally’s Ride to be held in November.
The event aims to raise awareness and funds for youth suicide prevention and other mental health resources in Tasmania and is sponsored through our Community Assist program.
Sally Fletcher is a great example of the kind spirit the program encourages.
She is a truly inspirational Tasmanian and I am delighted her initiative appears to be going from strength to strength since she made her first fundraising cycle ride around Tasmania in 2002.
Sally has not only been putting in the hard yards herself to raise many thousands of dollars to help those less fortunate…but she has also been getting the community involved.
Last year several of our staff took part in the corporate cycling challenge section of Sally’s Ride from Hobart to Campbell Town sponsored by Community Assist.
This year Sally’s Ride will focus on the area around the Tamar River in Launceston. There will be four different courses ranging from 25km to 140km that cater for all levels of cyclists from families, to recreational riders, corporate groups, and professional riders.
We are sponsoring the 95km Forestry Tasmania Community Assist Challenge. The ride will start from central Launceston and will go along the West Tamar Hwy, cross the Tamar at the Batman Bridge and will return to Launceston via Rocherlea.
I really encourage everyone to be a part of the event including Forestry Tasmania staff, several of whom have already signed up.
Our team will be supported by a tag team of celebrity riders and I will also put in a few kilometres myself.
Sally’s Ride was officially launched by Sport and Recreation Minister Michelle O’Byrne on August 14. The ride, which is being organised by the Rotary Club of Central Launceston, will be held on Saturday November 15.
Entry forms can be submitted and payments made at the Rotary Club website at www.rccl.org.au from August 29.
