‘Care for People’ awards coordinator
Spring is on its way, which means that the end of the school year will be following fast on its heels. It’s time once again for schools to sign up to include the Forestry Tasmania ‘Care for People’ award in their end of year celebrations.
The ‘Care for People’ schools award reflects one of Forestry Tasmania’s core values, and recognises students who demonstrate compassion and thoughtfulness towards others. Each of the winning students is presented with backpack, cap, drink bottle, Going Bush DVD and a family pass to either the Tahune AirWalk or Tarkine Forest Adventures at the school end of year assembly.
The award was created especially for primary and secondary students as an adjunct to our highly sought-after Community Assist program. It recognises that, just like the organisations and individuals who receive Community Assist sponsorship for particular projects, many students also work hard at a different level to make their communities better places in which to live. We introduced the award to acknowledge these quiet achievers, and to encourage them to continue contributing to their community.
We are keen for the recipients to receive public acknowledgment of their achievement. Therefore, all winners of the 2010 Forestry Tasmania ‘Care for People’ award will be published in Branchline in early 2011.
The number of schools participating in the award has grown exponentially since we introduced it in 2007. In 2009, a total of 115 students from 50 high schools and 65 primary schools throughout the state were presented with the award. We are hoping for even greater participation this year.
If your school would like to participate in the ‘Care for People’ award for 2010, please contact me on either 6235 8106 or tamika.mayne@forestrytas.com.au
Please note that schools must be registered by 31 October 2010 to participate in the award.
