TASMANIA’S inspirational ultra distance runner and great grandfather Vlastik Skvaril is celebrating his 70th birthday today by beginning a 3,050 kilometre push scooter journey from Darwin to Adelaide to raise funds for CanTeen.
We are sponsoring Vlastik in his latest challenge through the Forestry Tasmania-Southern Cross Television Community Assist program.
The Community Assist program supports Tasmanian organisations and individuals who work hard to make their communities better places to live. This year’s sponsorship will again cover the majority of Vlastik’s costs, ensuring all the funds raised will go to CanTeen.
Vlastik will be farewelled by two Darwin sisters whose father died of bowel cancer two years ago today, and new CanTeen NT programs manager Stephanie Armour.
Last year, Community Assist sponsored Vlastik on his 5,768 kilometres run from Shark Bay to Byron Bay to raise funds for CanTeen.
Vlastik is a true hero and he has a giant heart. He has been a tireless supporter of people whose lives have been affected by adversity.
Forestry Tasmania is proud to support this inspirational man who has made such a positive contribution to the community.
During his journey Vlastik, and his wife Jo who will drive the support vehicle, will follow the Stuart Highway and will stop at schools and visit towns along the way including Katherine, Mataranka, Tennant Creek, Devils Marbles, Alice Springs, Coober Pedy and Port Augusta.
As well as raising money for CanTeen they will also be informing people about CanTeen and Forestry Tasmania.
We look forward to receiving updates from Vlastik and to welcoming him safely home in mid October.
