Tarkine Forest Adventures reopens this Saturday

Ken Jeffreys
General Manager Corporate Relations and Tourism

Tarkine Forest Adventures will reopen this Saturday, 29 August, after being closed during the month of August to allow maintenance works around the site to be completed.

Tarkine Forest Adventures reopens in time for spring, one of the greatest seasons to visit the site. Visitors will once again be able to ride the thrilling Tarkine Slide to the forest floor where they can explore the vibrant blackwood forest during one of the lushest and greenest times of year.

Those looking for a new and exciting way to experience the Tarkine can enjoy a ride on the new mountain bike tracks winding through the forest. The tracks are suitable for beginners through to experienced riders and bikes are available for hire from the visitor centre.

For Tarkine Forest Adventures, it's business as usual while we continue to work through an Expression of Interest process for the site.

With growing awareness of the Tarkine brand, Forestry Tasmania believes the time is right to further develop the Tarkine Forest Adventures site and in early August we invited other tourism operators to consider partnering with us to take it to the next level.

The Expressions of Interest close on Tuesday 1 September, so if you have a vision for the site, make sure you get your submission in.

Short listed proponents will be invited to submit formal proposals by 1 October, with a final decision to be made in early November.

The initial expressions of interest should address issues such as the potential of the Tarkine brand, employment, investment and financial returns, and length of lease.

The proposals should be in line with Forestry Tasmania’s values, and reference should be made to ways of celebrating the area’s special species timbers.

Tarkine Forest Adventures is already one of the most popular attractions in the far north west, and there is considerable opportunity for further growth. The proposed Tarkine Drive promises to make the region a tourism destination with substantial appeal to the growing ‘nature enthusiast’ market.

Possible business models could include:

To ensure complete confidentiality, Forestry Tasmania does not intend to make any further public comment, until the process has been completed.
