Snow tours – indulgence with a difference

by Richard Skinner, Manager, Maydena Adventure Hub

Top of the World Snow Tours offer a new world of adventure at Maydena.

The tours will kick off with the first snowfall of the season which is expected in the next few days.

The intimate tours will involve the chance for snow play on the way to the Eagles Eyrie at Abbotts Peak where the spectacular views can be taken in from fireside comfort while indulging in fine Tasmanian wine and cuisine.

Top of the World Snow Tours offer a unique way to see and experience Tasmania during the winter months and will appeal to people of all ages who want a special encounter with our rugged terrain and world famous forests.

The snow tours start at the Maydena Hub. It’s then on to the historic Derwent Valley Railway track for an invigorating and fun filled two kilometre ride in the rainforest on Australia’s first pedal powered rail rider.

Passengers are picked up at the end of the line and transported by four wheel drive to the Styx Big Tree Reserve for hot soup and crusty bread rolls and the chance to get up close and personal with some of the tallest hardwoods in the world in their majestic old-growth forest environment.

It’s then back aboard the 12 seater Maydena OKA for the drive through a range of forest types and up to the summit of Abbotts Peak. Along the way there’ll be a stop for snow play – to build a snowman, make a snow angel and throw snowballs.

Breathtaking views of Tasmania’s most spectacular snow capped mountain peaks can be enjoyed from the fireside comfort of the Eagles Eyrie.

The sensory experience will be further enhanced by fine Tasmanian cool climate wines from the award winning Meadowbank Estate Winery and the appetising cuisine prepared by leading Tasmanian chef Waji Spiby using fresh local and seasonal produce.
