Huon District excels at safety in the workplace

Peter Pepper

Community Liaison Officer, Huon District

Forestry Tasmania Huon District staff has achieved a significant safety goal, namely 441 days without a lost time injury.

This outcome is a direct reflection of the safety attitude of all Forestry Tasmania staff. Over the past 12 months, staff around the state have attended courses based around the theme of an “injury free work place”.

This program has been coupled to a “crash free driving” program that each employee has taken part in during the past year. Both programs are a reflection of Forestry Tasmania’s corporate values.

All members of Forestry Tasmania staff and their contractors are eligible to attend safety meetings. The safety meetings report to staff, contractors and management on all safety issues relating to all activity that occurs within the Southern Forests.

Staff training is ongoing for Forestry Tasmania in the Huon and statewide.
