Learning Centre Underway

WORK is proceeding on the Forest Education Foundation’s new National Forest Learning Centre.  The FEF is an independent organisation, and its Learning Centre will be housed in the Forestry Tasmania Exhibition Hall in Melville Street.

Tasmanian company Red Arrow has been contracted to build a series of work stations that will enable visiting students to undertake studies on subjects including the dynamics of forests, scientific findings, the way people interact with forests, the role of foresters and how wood is used.

The flexible and interactive programs for visiting schools will be run by FEF teachers Darcy Vickers, Clinton Jordan and Sarah Langley, and will complement established classroom visits and field trip programs run by the FEF since 1989.

The centre will host a range of other activities such as community presentations, National Science Week events and education meetings. It will also be open to the public as a forest interpretation and information centre.

The centre has received funding through a Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry grant.
