Young Tasmanian elite diver Ebony Schuecker-Rush will continue on track to achieve her dream of representing Australia at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games as she prepares for an international training trip.
Twelve-year-old Ebony from the state’s south is a member of the National Elite Diving Team and recently attended the National Elite Diving Championships in Sydney where she achieved impressive results in the platform, one-metre and three-metre springboard categories.
Ebony will head off later in 2009 to China where she will further develop her diving skills as she trains with Chinese coaches.
Ebony is the recipient of a Care for People award through the Community Assist Program.
This is the second year Ebony has been sponsored through the program, which recognises Tasmanians that share Forestry Tasmania’s core values.
Ebony’s dedication to her diving and strong work ethic sees her training up to 20 hours per week before and after school. She also travels around Australia and the world as part of her commitments with the National Elite Diving Team.
This upcoming trip to China will be an invaluable experience for Ebony and she hopes to pick up some helpful tips to assist her in developing her diving technique and ultimately help her in achieving selection for the Australian Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams. We wish Ebony all the best for her training trip.
