Project Officer, Special Timbers
Forestry Tasmania and its enterprise, Island Specialty Timbers Tasmania (ISTT) at Geeveston, have developed an improved 2010 assistance program to make special timbers affordable and accessible for all Tasmanian schools.
The program offers generous discounts for seasoned ‘shorts packs’ and ‘scrap packs’ and pays half the freight costs, capped at $100 per order, to help more students use Tasmania’s special timbers in their school projects. ISTT also take orders for green sawn timber, which schools can air season for future projects.
Myrtle, black-heart sassafras, celery top and Huon Pine pine timber for schools are all available under the program.
Forestry Tasmania will sponsor a ‘Scrap Pack Challenge’ competition being developed for 2010 to encourage students explore the creative use of small pieces of special timbers – watch for news of its launch!
