Ride to Work

FORESTRY Tasmania increased its participation level in the Ride to Work Day this year, with 27 people registering to be part of the event, most of whom ride to work on a regular basis.

The FT team was among an estimated up to 140,000 workers around Australia who took part in Ride to Work last Wednesday.

After cycling from their homes in different areas around Hobart the majority of the FT riders met for breakfast at Mawson Place on the waterfront on the morning of the ride and then continued to the FT offices.

Last year our team of 22 won an award for our participation rate and with five more riders we are hopeful we can win it again this year.

One of the highlights of this year’s ride was the participation of Derwent District veteran Brett Warren who not only rode to work for the first time, but also rode over the Tasman Bridge for first time.

However it wasn’t a smooth ride for everyone.

Conservation biologist Simon Grove had good intentions and set out on his bike from Taroona. However he only got as far as Sandy Bay before getting a rear-wheel puncture. He then had to park his bike and get a bus into work instead!
