FT researcher wins prestigious award

DATE 02/11/2007
The Fellowships are awarded by the Gottstein Trust, an education fund established to assist people working in forestry to further their knowledge and skills. Applicants undergo a rigorous application process, presenting the Trust with a detailed proposal for their intended area of research. The Fellowships are well recognised for providing recipients with career advancement in the forest industry.

During his study tour, Paul will present a paper at the 11th North American Forest Soil Conference. He will also visit the Forest Nutrition Cooperative, as well as a number of large forestry companies to learn how forest research is put into practice.

“The long term research into sustainability and environmental factors in the States has a direct relationship to plantation management in Tasmania.

“This tour will provide me with new directions and new ways of integrating plantation nutrition research with the other aspects of silviculture research.

“I’m also interested in long term plantation research sites. FT’s Plantations Branch is interested in implementing a network of these long-term sites, which will operate over a number of rotations. Tree nutrition will be an important part of that.”
