Deadline Looms for Adventure Hub Hopefuls

DATE 11/07/2008
ADVENTURE and eco tourism operators have less than a week to lodge an interest in becoming part of Forestry Tasmania's latest tourism operation, the Maydena Adventure Hub.
The final round of advertisements are featured in this weekend's press with expressions of interest closing on July 18.
Forestry Tasmania's General Manager Tourism Ken Jeffreys said there had already been a positive response by a variety of adventure and eco tourism operators.
“Forestry Tasmania's vision is to establish Maydena as an exciting adventure hub, offering a range of outdoor activities and experiences for a broad cross section of the tourism and recreation market,” he said.
“This is an ideal opportunity for those with experience in outdoor adventure activity, an eye for detail, a commitment to excellence and an entrepreneurial flair to develop a memorable experience for tourists and recreation enthusiasts.
“We expect the successful applicants will have imagination, a sense of adventure and a passion for Tasmania.
“We have already had expressions of interest from 15 applicants for the Maydena Hub managers’ position and have received 19 expressions of interest from people wanting to partner with Forestry Tasmania in the development of activities from the Maydena Hub.
The main attraction at the Maydena Adventure Hub will be a “rooftop of Tasmania” experience at the Eagles Eyrie lookout at Abbots Peak on the summit of the Maydena Range which will provide outstanding 360 degree views over the Styx Valley and Florentine and Gordon forests. There will also be a central shopfront in the Maydena township.
So far, expressions of interest have covered a range of activities including mountain biking, bush walking tours, abseiling horse riding , 4WD tours and tree cable rides.
“After the July 18 deadline, those who have expressed an interest will be invited to a workshop to explore how the partnership with Forestry Tasmania will work and to prepare the framework to progress to formal proposals, " Mr Jeffreys said.
The $2.1 million infrastructure works for the project will be finished in the first quarter of next year.
Expressions of interest can be lodged with Forestry Tasmania, GPO Box 207 Hobart 7001 or email: richard.skinner@forestrytas.com.au.
