On the road again
DATE 04/03/2009
IRREPRESSIBLE long distance runner and 2008 Forestry Tasmania Southern/Cross Community Assist recipient Vlastik Skavril will be back on the road from March 6-10.
Vlastik will again be raising funds for CanTeen, but this time he will ride a push scooter from the Cadbury factory in Glenorchy to the Cadbury milk depot in Burnie, a distance of 340 kilometres over five days.
Vlastik will be accompanied by his wife Jo, who will drive the support vehicle, and they will be joined by grandsons Danial and Jacob on push bikes.
Vlastik has urged Tasmanians to get behind the ride, which will be a test run for a similar undertaking from Darwin to Adelaide in the near future.
“The tough economic times must not be used as an excuse for forgetting about the less fortunate young Australians living with cancer,” Vlastik said.
“Some charities enjoy support from national media and are kept in headlines. Others are not so fortunate so we have to work hard to ensure that they are not kept out of sight and out of mind.”
Last year Vlastik ran across inland Australia, undertaking a gruelling 100 day 5768 kilometre journey from Australia’s most westerly point Shark Bay, to its most easterly point Byron Bay.
Vlastik was supported by a Forestry Tasmania/Southern Cross Television Community Assist sponsorship arrangement which covered his expenses and allowed all the money he raised to be donated to CanTeen.
Vlastik’s March 6-10 push scooter ride from Hobart to Burnie will go through numerous towns along the way, including Kempton, Oatlands, Campbell Town, Launceston, Carrick, Westbury, Deloraine, Elizabeth Town, Devonport, Ulverstone and Penguin.
Online donations can be made at www.everydayhero.com.au/scooter and will go directly to CanTeen.
