TASMANIAN John Please and his family will be honorary goodwill ambassadors for the state on their 12-day holiday to Hawaii this month. (December)
While in Hawaii they will talk up Tasmania to people they meet and give away mementos including Forestry Tasmania caps, pens, frisbees and lanyards as well as Going Bush CDs, Forest Facts and pamphlets on Tarkine Forest Adventures, Tahune AirWalk and Hollybank Treetop Adventures.
John has travelled the world and says one of the best ways of advertising Tasmania is through word of mouth.
“Some people don’t know anything about Tasmania at all and ask you questions,” he said.
“Others have visited the mainland and we encourage them to come to Tasmania and tell them what a wonderful place it is to visit.
“If you give them a memento it’s not only a friendly thing it’s a great way to sell the state.
“People are really interested and we’ve had follow up phone calls as well as people coming to visit the state. So we know it works.”
