Summer Holiday Treats at Tahune - Abseiling off the AirWalk

Visitors to Tahune are discovering a new exhilarating way to get down from the AirWalk - abseiling from the AirWalk's tower in the treetops to the ground.

The abseiling option has been introduced on selected days as part of a makeover for the popular Tasmanian top-ten tourist attraction.

Tahune manager Tracey Tomkinson said the site in partnership with Aardvark Adventures has been offering the abseiling option on Sundays and it has proved a hit with visitors.

"The response has been fantastic and we will be offering the option on Sunday, January 17 and Sunday January 24," Ms Tomkinson said.

It is one of many changes visitors to the AirWalk will notice. A new shuttle bus has been introduced to ferry people to the start of the AirWalk and to the swinging bridges.

As well, a new interpretation strategy has been developed, and is centred around more guided tours to bring the stories of the site to life.

"The presence of guides on the AirWalk is certainly creating a vibe I haven't seen before, it really is awesome. The visitors love it and the interaction with the guides appears to be extending the time the visitors are spending here.

The new shuttle operating is also fantastic. The purpose of this was to enhance the visitor experience by assisting in the distribution of visitors around the site.

" I expected this to be a slow increasing improvement and was absolutely blown away when I ventured out to the swing bridges and realised just how many people were there.

 "In the past, some may have been deterred by the walk from the visitor centre to the bridges, but now the shuttle bus drops them right there," Ms Tomkinson said.

Tahune is also hosting a number of special events including:

January 13 : The Kids Day Out - with eagle glides, treasure hunts, sausage sizzle, face painting.

January 23: Gourmet in the Forest with Hartzview Vineyard - a taste of Huon food and wine

January 26: Australia Day Barbecue

January 30: Targa Wrest Point - see all the fast cars tackle the road to Tahune.
