Forestry Talks as presented by the Division of Forest Research & Development are available on DVD Video.

The 2004/05 DVD compilation includes 5 Forestry Talks:

• Date: 29 July 2004 -Speaker: Peter Volker
  What makes good wood: Comparing old-growth, regrowth and plantation timber
  These characteristics of timber are examined in the light of changing technology for production of timber products and resource availability.
  
  
• Date: 19 August 2004 -Speaker: Sandra Roberts
  Understanding the water demands of forests
  This talk explains some of the science of native forest and plantation water use in Australia.
  
  
• Date: 30 September 2004 -Speaker: Michael Laffan
  The real dirt on Tasmanian forest soils
  Outlines the basic properties of forest soils and explains how they are formed by the interaction of environmental features.
  
  
• Date: 28 October 2004 -Speaker: Neil McCormick
  Seed for Forestry Tasmania's Regenerated Forests
  Forestry Tasmania regenerates native forests with seed collected from the area harvested during logging operations. The aim is to regrow native forest in the area harvested with the original mix of species and genes that have evolved on the site.
  
  
• Date: 27 January 2005 -Speaker: Tim Wardlaw
  Phythophthora cinnamomi: the plant killer
  Forestry Tasmania has been at the forefront in managing this disease in Tasmania since the early 1970’s. Find out how this research is helping to protect rare and threatened species and iconic flora from this killer.
