Eucalyptus gunnii

Cider Gum

In sheltered valleys at somewhat lower elevations it may grow up to 25m tall.

Eucalyptus gunnii at the highest altitudes is usually a small, often stunted tree, branched to near ground level and without a well defined stem. Cider gum is endemic to Tasmania and occurs principally on the plains and low hills of the central highlands with a few other relatively high altitude occurrences. The climatic zone is cold, humid and wet. The conditions are amongst the most severe experienced by any eucalypt.

It grows on a variety of soils and at the higher elevations is often on the more rocky better-drained sites in areas of alpine humus soils. The juvenile foliage of this tree is widely used for floral arrangements.
