Forest Drives

Our Forest Drives will give you more than one experience. Most of the drives travel through a variety of forest types and various stages of forest growth and regrowth.

Interpretation signs give you insights into forest history and conservation as well as into modern forest harvesting and management practices.

Here you can actually see first hand how the forests are regrowing for future generations. The often depicted clearfelling practices in wet eucalypt forests only paint the ground black for a very short period of time before a new native forest takes hold and regrows. Dry eucalypt forests are mostly harvested by selective logging rather than being clearfelled.

Forestry is complex, so drive out and see for yourself that trees keep on growing, even if there has been human intervention. Native forests only vanish if they are turned into farmland, plantations or cleared for housing subdivisions and highways.
