Before You Go
- Major Forest roads are easily managed year round by most cars. But, remember- you are on gravel, possibly in a wood production area. So allow a little extra time and take a little extra care.
- Camping? There are many prepared sites with basic facilities, but you are welcome to camp almost anywhere in State Forest. We ask only that you leave designated day-use sites to picnickers. Whatever your choice, please be considerate of others and of the forest environment.
- Bring your dogs? Yes, in most places. But please keep it under control and on a lead when walking and around other people and in picnic areas.
- Rubbish spoils the experience for everyone and can endanger wildlife. Show your respect for the forest and for other users by carrying your rubbish out. For health reasons, faecal waste should be buried at least 100m from campsites and streams.
- Native plants and animals are protected in reserves as an integral part of their forest environment. Photograph them by all means, but please leave them in their natural surroundings.
- Locked gates may be found in more remote sites away from the major forest roads. General access can be obtained by contacting the nearest Forestry Tasmania office to obtain a key.
- Barbeques are provided at many picnic areas. Most are wood fired and we suggest you bring your own kindling to make easy starting. Easier still is to bring your own gas barbecue to ensure all cooking goes to plan.
