Griffin Camping Area

“Hi, I'm Shannon, during the summer of 2011 as a bursary student with Forestry Tasmania, I took the challenge to visit Forestry Tamania's 52 visitor sites.

I hope you enjoy my blogs and are inspired to visit some or all of these places for yourself."

Located in the same area as the Evercreech Forest Reserve, Griffin Camping Area is known to be a great base location for those wanting to explore the area over a longer period of time. It is located in the Mathinna area and is close to Fingal, Mathinna Falls and Evercreech Forest Reserve. The camping area is by the banks of the South Esk River, and comprises of three different sections, each with their own toilet facilities.

Camping here is free of charge (from what I can gather) but works on a 'first come, first served' basis. There are also BBQ and picnic table facilities but that's about it really. The surrounding roads are quite popular with motorbike riders, and off-road vehicles. However, if these get too loud and are disturbing your peace and quiet, then another smaller camping area is located back at the beginning of the road.

That's all I can really say on the Griffin Camping Area. If you are one for a family camping holiday, it's a great spot to get back to nature and explore the surrounding forests with their many walks, waterfalls and natural wonders.
