“Hi, I'm Shannon, during the summer of 2011 as a bursary student with Forestry Tasmania, I took the challenge to visit Forestry Tamania's 52 visitor sites.
Brushy Lagoon is in Northern Tassie, and if you head out through Exeter and Frankford you should find it no worries. From memory there is a sign indicating where in Frankford you turn off, if not the road is called Priestleys Lane. Follow this road until you see the turnoff sign, it is opposite a big green and white house on the left hand side. You are now in Reedy State Forest.
You drive along for a little bit, maybe fifteen minutes (but who is counting?) and then you come to a fork in the road. 2.5km one way takes you to the boat ramp, and 2.5km the other way you end up at the dam wall. I first went down to the boat ramp. If you have a licence, I hear the trout fishing here is great! There was a couple who had been camping for awhile over this side. It is a great spot with quite a large space for several families. However you will have to rough it as there are no facilities in this area.
From the boat ramp, I headed off to the dam wall. I took a stroll across the dam wall and from this side I could see the boat ramp where I had just been. I'd say there are a few good fishing spots on this side too, but I am no experienced fisherman/person and the only thing I ever catch is a cold. Its a nice peaceful spot though and in the words of Daryl Kerrigan 'Ah, the serenity...'.
